Ship-boat collision: Navy locates 'object' in deep sea

Navy has located an "object" in the deep sea at the spot where a ship had collided with a fishing boat leaving two fishermen dead and three others missing.

KOCHI: Navy has located an "object" in the deep sea at the spot where a ship had collided with a fishing boat leaving two fishermen dead and three others missing.

Naval authorities have deployed INS Sarvekshak fitted with side scan sonar capable of detecting underwater objects to the area yesterday to locate the sunken boat.

Specialised deep sea naval divers would try to ascertain the "object", naval sources said today.

Naval and Coast Guard ships, meanwhile, are continuing the search for the three missing fishermen of the boat 'Don-1' which was hit by the vessel.

Efforts were also on to identify the ship that rammed into the fishing boat, official sources said.

The collision in the wee hours of Thursday had shocked the fishing community of Neendakara in Kollam district as it happened within two weeks after two fishermen were shot dead allegedly by marines onboard Italian ship Enrica Lexie.
