The move is part of Shinde group's bid to take formal control of the party organisation after managing to attract majority legislators in the legislative and parliamentary groups. Chief minister Eknath Shinde confirmed that such a letter was sent to EC on Tuesday evening: "We have yesterday given a detailed letter to the commission."
The Shinde group expects a favourable decision from EC and have the name 'Shiv Sena' and party symbol of 'bow and arrow' allotted to it.
However, during similar splits, EC has frozen the name and symbol of parties and recognized a faction as the real party only after its convincing win in a state assembly or Lok Sabha poll over the other faction.
