Shimla's Gaiety theatre a hit on internet

SHIMLA: Gaiety, a landmark heritage theatre building and a renowned hub for cultural activities in Shimla, is getting acclaimed worldwide through internet also. According to information from Gaiety office and department of language, art and culture (LAC), on an average, around 35-40 new visitors enquire about the theatre daily or visit the website of Gaiety, which was launched on September 14 in 2010. In about ten months of launch, it has neared 10,000 visits mark, sources said.

The website gives information about different architectural splendours in the theatre and activities conducted here in its different halls and Lalit Kala Gallery since its inauguration in 2009. Photographs of its restoration phases besides the rare old image of Shimla of 1825, is available on the website and rare photographs of 58 plays staged during 1894-1904, compiled by Amateur Dramatic Club (ADC), are also present on the website.

Gaiety has also attracted visitors in the Queen of Hills and since April, 2010 when the theatre was opened for public, 10,000 visitors have had a glance of the theatre. Foreigners comprised 20-25% of these visitors.
