Shifting NIT out of Srinagar is no solution: V K Singh
PALAMPUR: Union Minster General (retd.) V K Singh today said shifting NIT out of Srinagar was no solution to the problems prevailing in the institute and that efforts should be made to defuse the situation.

"Efforts should be made to defuse the situation and safety of the outside students should be ensured," the Union Minister of State for External Affairs told reporters here.

Stressing that India has adopted a "constructive" approach to solve all the outstanding issues with Pakistan, Singh said the neighbouring country was not reciprocating the gesture and continued to shift its stand on important issues like terror and border disputes.

The minister also expressed his anguish at the death of scores of devotees in the devastating fire which engulfed a temple in Kollam in Kerala.

Meanwhile, a delegation of ex-servicemen, led by its Palampur unit president C D S Guleria, met the minister and submitted a charter of demands, detailing the problems faced by the retired soldiers in this hill state.

The minister assured the deputation that their genuine grievances would be forwarded by him to the Defence Minister.
