Shibu Soren agrees to step down

Jharkhand CM agreed to step down after six-hr meeting with MLAs.

RANCHI: Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren agreed to step down at the end of a marathon six-hour meeting with MLAs and executive members of his Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.

He said he would put in papers after conveying his party's decision to the UPA leadership tomorrow in New Delhi.

"We have taken a final decision in our executive body meeting and legislature party meeting, and I will go to Delhi tomorrow to convey the message to the central UPA leadership," Soren told reporters after the meeting.

Soren said he had greed to vacate the post chief minister, but would step down only after conveying the party's decision to the central UPA leadership.

He also refused to divulge whether JMM had decided to recommend name of any other party MLA to the UPA leadership for the top post.

"I will not tell anything on that. I will tell to Lalu Prasadji and Soniaji," said Soren.

Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto said the JMM MLAs had left it on the party chief to take a final decision on the future course to end the present political uncertainty in the state.

Mahto was asked whether the JMM would project any of its MLA as the chief ministerial candidate during Soren's meeting with the UPA leadership.

Soren, who returned from Delhi earlier in the day, held a meeting of JMM MLAs and leaders to discuss party's move amid the situation arising after defeat in the Tamar bypoll.
