Sheena Bora case: CBI accuses Peter Mukerjea of murder

MUMBAI: Peter Mukerjea, husband of prime accused Indrani Mukerjea in the Sheena Bora murder case, was on Friday charged with murder, a day after his arrest, and sent to CBI custody till Monday by a local court.

The CBI told the magistrate that he was involved in conspiracy with his wife Indrani and had played an active role in the murder. Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh told the court that Mukerjea was in continuous conversation with his wife prior, during and after the murder.

The Metropolitan Magistrate also transferred the trial in the case to a sessions court here and directed the three accused — Indrani Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai — be produced there on December 3.

“In a related development, the Maharashtra government has said that it will act against former Raigad Superintendent of Police, RD Shinde, under whose jurisdiction Sheena’s burnt body was found but buried without registration of a case. Maharashtra Home Secretary KP Bakshi said that former DGP Sanjeev Dayal had on September 30 submitted a report implicating Shinde for the glaring errors that led to the Sheena Bora case remaining buried for years after her murder.

“ We had asked the DGP to inquire in to the issue and Dayal has submitted a one page report which has mentioned the name of R D Shinde. We have sought for some more documents which are expected any time soon.”said Bakshi.

Sources in the government said that since just one page report was not enough to move against an IPS officer, it was decided to ask IPS officer Pravin Dixit who took over as DGP from Dayal to submit a comprehensive report on the omissions of Shinde.
