NEW DELHI: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor today opposed the move to set up a Rs 10,000-crore fund for start-ups and said the government should not spend the tax payers' money as the capital can come from private sector.

"The policy is good but why are we giving tax payers' money for start-ups when very very easily private sector can come in for investment," Tharoor said.

He was speaking at a panel discussion after a launch of book 'The Politics of Migration: Indian Emigration in a Globalised World'.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Saturday unveiled a slew of incentives to boost start-up businesses, offering them a tax holiday and inspector raj-free regime for three years, capital gains tax exemption and Rs 10,000 crore corpus to fund them.
