Shashi Tharoor apologises for tweet about PM Modi's Bangladesh speech

The Thiruvananthapuram MP's tweet comes a day after he implied that PM Modi had not acknowledged former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's role in the liberation of the eastern wing.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday apologised for his remark regarding the Prime Minister's speech in Bangladesh. Tharoor in a tweet admitted his mistake, saying it was on the basis of "a quick reading of headlines and tweets".


The Thiruvananthapuram MP's tweet comes a day after he implied that PM Modi had not acknowledged former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's role in the liberation of the eastern wing. In his apology, Tharoor wrote "Sorry!' while sharing an article quoting Modi as saying "Indira Gandhi's contribution in Bangladesh's freedom is publicly known."


PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Bangladesh during which he will take part in a wide range of programmes aimed at furthering cooperation between the two countries.
