Share state's concern: Tharoor on Rail Budget

MoS for HRD Shashi Tharoor said he "shared the general concern" on the railway budget that long-term requests of Kerala were still not fulfilled.

THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor today said he "shared the general concern" on the railway budget that long-term requests of Kerala were still not fulfilled.

"The disappointment felt in many quarters is understandable and there is concern about the railway needs of the state which will have to be collectively taken up at the highest level," he said in a statement issued here.

Tharoor, however, welcomed the announcements in the budget that related to increasing a number of train services in respect of Thiruvananthapuram, the Lok Sabha constituency he represents. He said one more weekly service had been introduced between Thiruvananthapuram and Lokmanya Tilak and between Kochuveli and Chandigarh.

The Guwahati-Kochi Express had also been extended to the state capital and Kollam-Nagercoil Memu service to Kanyakumari, he said.
