Seventeen fake Rs 2000 notes are currently in circulation in Bengaluru
Two young men in the IT city decided to make the most out of the demonetisation confusion by taking colour photocopies of the Rs 2,000 note and passing them off as genuine.

The duo, Shashank Manjunath, 22, who works in a mobile shop and auto driver Madhukumar Prakash, 19, pulled it off in a couple of bars and wine stores from December 16. On Monday, however, a sharp-eyed wine shop owner, H R Nagesh of Varalaxmi wines, caught them in the act and handed them to the Jnanabharthi police station in Bengaluru.

The police have registered on a case under IPC sections 489b and 420 against the duo. The police said they had made 25 photocopies at a friend's shop and used the notes. Only 8 of these notes have been recovered.

Two others, Nagaraj Akash, 27 and Kirankumar, 21, have also been arrested for using the notes made by the duo. Police said all efforts are on to recover the other fake notes.
