Seven women killed after explosion at fireworks unit in Cuddalore district
Shortly after news broke about the accident on Friday afternoon, Chief Minister Edappadi promised a solatium of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased.

"The incident took place around 11-11:30am near Kattumannarkoil," an executive of the Special Branch office in Cuddalore told ET. "Seven women were killed while two women are unconscious and undergoing treatment at the Raja Muthiah Medical College Hospital."
He confirmed that the factory was a licensed one but the cause of the explosion was yet to be ascertained.
"An investigation will be carried out into what led to the accident but as of now, we do not know what led to it," he said.

This industrial accident has occured at a time when the state government has allowed industries to resume work with 100 per cent workforce in a bid to boost the economy after the strict lockdown that was imposed owing to the pandemic.
