Seven suspected militants killed in encounter with army

DHUBRI: Seven suspected militants were killed in an encounter with army today in Bashbari area of lower Assam's Dhubri district and arms recovered from them.

The suspected militants exchanged fire with the troops during an operation by the Redhorn division near the railway tracks between Dhubri and Fakiragram around 3.30 am, Defence sources said.

Four pistols and revolvers were recovered from them, the sources said. The identity of the suspected militants was yet to be know and senior police and army officials have rushed to the site. Counter-insurgency operations have been intensified in the area, the sources added.
