At least seven people were killed and more than 60 wounded in a suicide car bomb attack near the Indian embassy in Kabul on Thursday, the office of President Hamid Karzai said.

KABUL: At least seven people were killed and more than 60 wounded in a suicide car bomb attack near the Indian embassy in Kabul on Thursday, the office of President Hamid Karzai said.

The attack, which the government earlier confirmed was a suicide blast, took place in the heavily fortified diplomatic area of central Kabul at about 8:30 am (O400 GMT).

"As a result of a suicide attack near the Indian embassy at least seven people were martyred and more than 60 others were wounded, most of them civilian residents of Kabul," a statement from the president's office quoted Karzai as saying.
