Over 40 Members of Parliament (MPs), grouped into seven all-party delegations-each including at least one minority and one woman parliamentarian-will soon embark on a global mission across 30 countries to convey India's strong message of zero tolerance against terrorism.

The initiative comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, launched after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The delegations will visit several nations, including permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, to reinforce India's national consensus against terrorism and highlight its unified political resolve.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs announced the leaders of these delegations: Congress MP and former MoS for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor, BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda, NCP-SP's Supriya Sule, DMK's Kanimozhi, Shiv Sena's Shrikant Shinde, and JD(U)'s Sanjay Jha. These senior leaders will each lead one of the seven delegations.

Who goes where

Of the seven delegation heads, four are from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-including two from BJP allies-and three from the opposition INDIA bloc. The government emphasised that representation across party lines has been ensured and that each group includes minority and women lawmakers.

In a significant gesture, the government has also invited several prominent leaders who are currently not MPs. These include former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, former Union Minister MJ Akbar, and senior politician SS Ahluwalia.

The government has carefully selected articulate leaders across the political divide, reflecting a rare show of unity on national security and foreign policy.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) will conduct detailed briefings for the delegations early next week and has already initiated visa procedures. The delegations will also be handed a comprehensive dossier, including a brief on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor.
