NEW DELHI: The brutal gang-rape of a journalist in Mumbai is weighing on the government's mind with the Ministry of Personnel asking the Union Home Ministry to specially brief the district collectors at its annual Collectors conference next month on tackling crimes against women.

The conference on September 6 and 7 in Delhi will see a special session by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the issue of crime against women and gender issues.

A senior government official said Home Ministry officials will sensitize the district collectors on the recently-enacted Criminal Law Amendment legislation that enhances the punishment for rape and sexual offences and provides for a time-bound trial within two months after a charge-sheet is filed in a rape or sexual assault case.
