Separate Telangana is inevitable: Cong MP
Separate Telangana promise is Congress President Sonia Gandhi's "birthday gift" to the people of the region and she cannot take it back as her credibility is involved.
Recalling the promise made by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on December 9, 2009, Satyanarayana said he made the statement when "Congessmen across the country were celebrating the birthday of Sonia Gandhi".
"This was a birthday gift by Sonia Gandhi. Having given a birthday gift, can we think she will take it back?"
"She cannot take it back as her credibility is involved. She will not go back. Fulfilling the promise is important," said Sathyanarayana, who represents Malkajgiri in Lok Sabha.
He said that the Justice Srikrishna Committee report is not binding on the Central Government and the Congress party and there is no "hard and fast rule" to accept it.
Stating that the UPA came to power at the centre in 2004 and 2009 because of Telangana, Sathyanarayana it should be declared as a separate state before Sonia's next birthday.
"We will insist upon high command, in the upcoming session itself the separate Telangana statehood bill must be passed in parliament," he added.
