Five-time MLA and Veteran Congress leader, C H Venkat Rao passes away


HYDERABAD : Senior Congress legislator and former Andhra Pradesh Minister CH Venkat Rao died here on Tuesday after prolonged illness. He was 76 and is survived by three daughters and a son.

Rao, a five-time MLA who represented Mylavaram Assembly constituency in Krishna district, was admitted to a corporate hospital here last month following kidney related ailment.

The end came in the early hours today, his family sources said. The funeral will be held at his native village Velagatur on Wednesday.

Born on Feb 10, 1932, Rao was first elected to the assembly in 1967. He was re-elected in 1972, 1979, 1986 and 2004.
Rao had served in the earlier Congress governments headed by late J Vengal Rao and late K Vijaybhaskar Reddy.

The Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, who is away on vocation in Maldives, expressed grief over Rao's death and said it was a big loss to the party.
