Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has resigned as Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra after Congress president Rahul Gandhi accepted his resignation this evening.

Vikhe Patil had sent his resignation letter to the top party leadership, offering to quit the post of LoP, after his son Sujay Vikhe Patil left Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in March.

Earlier in the day, Congress state president Ashok Chavan said Mr Vikhe-Patil did not campaign for the party and did not work for it. The party high command has been apprised of these issues. Rahul Gandhi is fully aware and will take appropriate action at the right time.

Mr Vikhe-Patil’s son Dr Sujay joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 12 and was fielded from the Ahmednagar Lok Sabha constituency by the BJP.
