Send audit committees for verifying TN voters' list: DMK to Election Commission

NEW DELHI: Claiming irregularities in deletion and inclusion of names in electoral roll in Tamil Nadu, DMK today requested the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to depute audit committees for verifying voters' list ahead of next year's Assembly elections.

"It has been established that (the names of) voters of the opposition party have been deleted for this or that reason. And (names of) voters of the ruling party have been included twice. So that they are enabled to vote twice in the same constituency or in another place," senior DMK leader and party Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva told reporters after meeting CEC Nasim Zaidi here.

Alleging that the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) was not taking action despite repeated pleas, the DMK leader claimed that some voters, who are alive, have been declared dead in the electoral roll.

"Some voters have been declared dead and their names have been removed. Our party Treasurer (MK) Stalin brought some of those declared dead (as per the voters' list) to the dais in a public meeting. We have presented this evidence to the Election Commission," he added.

Demanding action against Tamil Nadu CEO Sandeep Saxena, Siva said that the Election Commission should send audit committees for verification as was done in the case of Bihar.
