Shiv Sena not promised CM's post for 2.5 years: Fadnavis

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday denied the claim of the Shiv Sena that there was an agreement on sharing the chief minister's post with the junior ally.

Fadnavis also asserted that he will be the chief minister for another five years, rejecting Shiv Sena's claim that it was promised the CM's post for two-and-a-half years when the alliance was formalised before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

"There has been no agreement to give the CM's post to Shiv Sena for two and half years," Fadnavis told reporters in the midst of a running dispute between the two alliance partners over sharing of power.


Fadnavis also added that the arrangement was not discussed between BJP chief Amit Shah and the Sena leaders. "I spoke to Amit Shah on the claims of the Sena that there was such an agreement. He said that there was no such agreement.''

Fadnavis said he would be the chief minister for the entire five years and that it would be a stable govt. He also added that the Sena would be part of the government, and that "officially and unofficially" talks were on with the Sena.

"There is no Plan B for us. We are going with the Sena. We are not looking for any other options, besides Sena and nor are they," he said.

Fadnavis pointed out that both Congress and NCP clearly said they were not going with the Sena and that hence there was no question of it getting support from the rivals.

He also hit out against Shiv Sena's mouthpiece Saamna which has been taking potshots against him and the BJP.
