Sena MLA offers ₹11L for Rahul's tongue; Congress demands action

Mumbai: A Shiv Sena MLA from the Eknath Shinde group has announced a reward of Rs 11 lakh for anyone who "cuts off the tongue" of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad said that he was opposed to Gandhi's comments made in the United States on "ending" reservation and hence has announced the "reward". The Maharashtra Opposition has asked the state government to arrest Gaikwad for his threat against Gandhi.

"To uplift the Schedule Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Caste community and bring them on par with other castes, Babasaheb Ambedkar had brought in reservation. However, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi goes to a foreign country and talks about ending reservations here. I am now offering Rs 11 lakh as a reward on my own behalf to anyone who cuts off the tongue of Rahul Gandhi for talking about ending reservations," said Gaikwad.


The Shinde camp MLA made it clear that he had not made this remark to gain publicity but actually meant it. Gaikwad claimed that Gandhi's utterances in the US has "revealed the truth of the Congress."

"They (Congress) were claiming before the Lok Sabha polls that we were going to finish off the reservations. They spread a fake and negative narrative and took the votes of the community (SC, ST and OBC). However, Gandhi's statements in the US have shown that it is they who want to end reservations. It is now clear 100% that Gandhi wants to end reservations," said Gaikwad.

The Congress has condemned the Sena MLA's remarks and has asked for action to be taken against Gaikwad.
