Semi-government and municipal employees too have to declare assets
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government today made it mandatory for the employees of semi-government and municipal corporations and councils to declare their assets annually.

Earlier, only state government employees had to make their assets and liabilities public before May 31.

The decision has now been extended to the employees of semi-government, panchayati raj institutions, municipal councils, municipal corporations, public undertakings and state government boards and corporations.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis felt that earlier rule had excluded all these employees but government control on these institutions was necessary.

"The rules should be the same for state government as well as semi government and municipal employees," a press release from the Chief Minister's office said.

Following this decision, officers and employees in CIDCO, MMRDA, municipal councils and corporations will have to submit their assets and liabilities to their department heads every year.
