‘Selfie with Modi’ bombed in Delhi polls, cost BJP Rs 1 crore

NEW DELHI: Selfies with PM Narendra Modi have not paid much dividend to the BJP but has made a dent to the party's coffers. Seven rounds of 'Selfie with Modi' campaign during the Delhi assembly elections earlier this year cost the party Rs 1.06 crore.

Since it didn't have much of an outcome in terms of impact, the party seems to have discontinued the campaign in Bihar. It was during the Delhi assembly elections that the BJP had launched a campaign: "Selfie with Modi". In the first round it cost Rs 86.50 lakh to the party. Booths were set up in different constituencies for people to click selfies with a virtual image of Modi. The total cost in seven rounds was over Rs 1.06 crore.

According to BJP's expenditure details submitted to the Election Commission for the Delhi assembly elections, the "Selfie with Modi" campaign was used as a general party propaganda and expenses were authorised by the party's central headquarters.

The popularity of the selfie campaign in Delhi did not live up to expectations.

Earlier, in the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, Modi had invested big time in a virtual show and reaped rich dividends. The 3D holographic campaign of Modi reached out to millions of voters simultaneously in different cities during parliamentary elections and it had cost the party more than Rs 60 crore.

During the parliamentary polls Modi is believed to have addressed more than 700 3D rallies in different cities.
