Secy of Adarsh moves HC, seeks defreezing of bank accounts

MUMBAI: R C Thakur, chief secretary of the controversial Adarsh Housing Society, and an accused in the case filed by CBI, has approached the Bombay High Court seeking defreezing of his and family members' bank accounts.

The division bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar and P D Kode today directed the CBI to file reply by September 28.

Thakur has claimed in the petition that CBI's act of defreezing not only his but also his family members' bank accounts violated their fundamental rights.

His lawyer, advocate Saket Mone, said CBI had seized total of six bank accounts, in the names of Thakur, his wife Pramila, son Navin and daughter-in-law Arti. The accounts, at State Bank of India, had around Rs 40 lakh in them.

Thakur has been named as a prime accused in Adarsh case. According to CBI, the Society, in connivance with bureaucrats and defence officials, flouted several rules and regulations during the construction of its 31-storey building in south Mumbai.
