Security to private sector in a big way: CISF

CISF said it will "in a big way" provide security to private industrial units.

NEW DELHI: The CISF on Thursday said it will "in a big way" provide security to private industrial units following a huge demand for its services after the Mumbai terror attacks.

The announcement comes hours after the Rajya Sabha passed a Bill to amend the CISF Act to extend protection to private and joint ventures.

"We are going to deal the security of the private sector in a big way. There has been a huge demand and surge for CISF security after the November 26 Mumbai attacks," Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Additional Director General (Headquarters) Manjari Jaruhar told reporters.

The force has so far received a total of 47 requests, including Reliance Industries Limited, Infosys, Oberoi-Trident hotel- one of the three locations where terrorists were holed up during the Mumbai terror strikes, and DLF for providing security to its various units.

"We have received 47 requests from the private sector in the last one month. After an assessment, security audit will be carried out by the force and we will provide core duties like stationing Quick Reaction Teams and Commando units at the required installations," she said.

The decision on providing security to any unit will be taken considering the economic and other vital parameters.
