Security has been beefed up even as family members of a hardcore criminal filed their nominations for the election.

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Security has been tightened in Jihanpur village of Shamli district ahead of the Panchayat polls, even as family members of a hardcore criminal filed their nominations for the election.

"Mina, the mother of Mukeem as well as his wife, Yasmin filed their nomination for the Gram Pradhan polls in Jihanpur village yesterday," election officer Rajiv Verma said.

"Mukeem who carried a reward of Rs 2 lakh on him, was arrested last month, police said.

The security has been tightened in the village ahead of the polls to prevent any untoward incident.
