Security stepped up in WB on the eve of I-day celebrations
An elaborate security arrangement has been made in West Bengal in the wake of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said vigil by both state and Kolkata Police, besides central security agencies has been stepped up in the entire state, with more stress along the districts bordering neighbouring Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
City police sources said a special security net has been thrown around all vital installations, monument, markets, shopping malls, railway stations, airport bus terminal and government offices including Writers' Buildings, the seat of state administration where Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee would unfurl the tricolour tomorrow.
Special vigil by mobile units has also been arranged in all sensitive areas in the city and around, they said. The state was already under high alert following the serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad last month.
