Security personnel to guard singer Nahid Afrin: Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay
There has been bitter criticism to the appeal to not to attend the March 25 event from cross section of the society terming it as “Tabilan Style”

Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay told ET, “Full security has been provided to Nahid. We will ensure that there is fool-proof security at her programme on March 25. Even people have come out in support of her.”
Sahay said that there was a miss communication in which an appeal by a group has been branded as decree (fatwa).
Evidence for a fatwa was a pamphlet signed by some Muslim men, distributed in Hojai. The leaflet does not mention Afrin’s name and her proposed programme at March 25 programme at Udali Sonai Bibi College in Lanka.
The leaflet stated Guhari (appeal), asks people not to attend the March 25 event. “If anti-Sharia acts like musical nights are held on grounds surrounded by masjids, idgahs, madrassas and graveyards, our future generations will attract the wrath of Allah,” it stated.
Nahid shot to fame after her successful stint in a television singing reality show in 2015. There has been bitter criticism to the appeal from cross section of the society terming it as “Tabilan Style”
Her father Anower Ansari said Nahid is provided security. “I am sure people of Assam will secure her. We have received unprecedented support from the people.”
Assam chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal asked police to ensure that her programme is held and security is provided.
