The Manipur government spends nearly Rs 14.93 crore annually to provide security to its former ministers, legislators and bureaucrats, Home Minister Gaikhangam has said.

IMPHAL: The Manipur government spends nearly Rs 14.93 crore annually to provide security to its former ministers, legislators and bureaucrats, Home Minister Gaikhangam has said.

The scale of security provided is based on recommendation of the state level security review committee comprising of IGP (Intelligence), Chairman, Joint Director, SIB ( Imphal),Special Secretary (Home) and Superintendent of police (CID),Gaikhangam said while replying to a question in the Assembly yesterday.

He said as per the guidelines issued by the Union Home Ministry, the committee reviewed the scale of security provided to protected persons, including former ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats every six months.

NCP member L Ibomcha Singh, who raised the issue, said the amount spent on providing security to former ministers, MLAs and officials was a huge amount and wanted the government to check and reduce it.
