Security forces recover 6 IEDs from passenger bus in Assam
Security forces engaged in counter insurgency operations thwarted a major disaster when they recovered six powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from a passenger bus near Tezpur town.
The weight of the explosives is around 30 kg. The chief of army staff, general Deepak Kapur, is slated to visit Tezpur on Wednesday.
A police source added, "The IEDs were recovered near Dopota Bridge, about 8 km away from Tezpur town. The IEDs were kept in bags. Security forces have launched a manhunt to trace the militants carrying the explosives." The source, further, said that the explosives were later defused by the army's bomb disposal squad. In the two-day visit starting on Tuesday, Mr Kapur will review the security scenario in Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, south Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
He will also hold detailed discussions related to the security situation in the Northeast, and review the deployment of security forces in the region. The army chief is accompanied by Lt Gen VK Singh, general officer commanding-in-chief, Eastern Command.
