MUMBAI: Security for the IPL final to be played at the newly constructed D Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai has been doubled following the discovery of a low intensity explosive at an auditorium just ten Km from the stadium.

"We have doubled the security at the stadium to over 1,500 personnel which also includes personnel from the State Reserve Police Force following yesterday's incident," Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Ramrao Wagh told PTI here.

Additionally, teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and sniffer dogs are also deployed at the venue situated at Nerul, which has a capacity of accommodating over 45,000 spectators.

A senior official from the Anti Terrorism Squad of Maharashtra Police said that specially trained anti-sabotage officers will also be deployed at the spot.

A low intensity explosive containing gelatine sticks, a white powder suspected to be ammonium nitrate, a timer device for detonation and a circuit was found between two rows of seats in the Vishnudas Bhave Natyagruha in Vashi, situated about ten km away from the stadium, during the staging of a play last evening.

An elaborate closing ceremony has been planned by the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) to mark the end of the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League this evening.
