Security beefed up at Delhi hotels after Mumbai terror strike

NEW DELHI: It seems to be just another day at five-star hotels here where visitors were seen checking in and out as usual, even as extra security was put in place following serial terror strikes in two deluxe hotels in Mumbai.

Hotel authorities were seen verifying the identity of visitors and staff besides carrying out extensive checking of vehicles before allowing them entry into the premises.

Barricades were also placed outside the hotels with private security guards maintaining a close vigil on the movement near the hotel premises.

"We are taking all care that no unwanted person gets inside the hotel. We are conducting thorough checking of the vehicles and asking people to prove their identity," said a security officer at the Taj Palace Hotel.

However, people, including foreigners, were seen checking in and out of the hotels.

Police have already advised hotels across the city to take extra measures to enhance security as the city is already on alert after last night's terror attack in Mumbai.

Patrol vehicles were stationed near Taj Palace, ITC Maurya Sheraton and Oberoi to deal with any untoward incident.

Hotels like Shangri La and Le Meridian in Central Delhi were conducting their business as usual.

Two of Mumbai's five-star hotels - the heritage Taj Mahal Hotel and Trident (formerly Oberoi) were attacked by terrorists who have been holed up there with several hostages.
