Security arrangements in place in Muzaffarnagar for Kawad

MUZAFFARNAGAR, UP: In view of the upcoming Kawad Yatra, district authorities here have put in place security arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage which begins on August 1.

District Magistrate Nikhil Chand Shukla told mediapersons here today that district authorities have divided the route which passes through Muzaffarnagar into 75 sectors and one magistrate has been posted in each sector during the yatra.

He said that leaves of all district-level officers have been cancelled in view of the yatra, adding, this has been done to prevent any untoward incident.

Security has been tightened along the route, the official said.

Kawad pilgrims carry water from the Ganga in Haridwar in small pitchers back to their homes travelling all the way on foot.
