Security along Indo-Nepal border beefed up

Security along the porous Indo-Nepal border has been beefed up in view of the ensuing elections in the Himalayan kingdom.

PATNA: Security along the porous Indo-Nepal border has been beefed up in view of the ensuing elections in the Himalayan kingdom.

Bihar Principal Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah today said that the Union Home Ministry had convened a high-level meeting on April 1 to assess security measures undertaken by the state governments along the porous international borders.

He said the Indo-Nepal border would be sealed four days before the elections in Nepal on April 10.

The Sasashtra Seema Bal (SSB) has been asked to intensify patrolling and to keep a close vigil on the people crossing the border.

Additional forces would be deployed in the districts bordering Nepal to check trans-border activities like smuggling of firearms to Nepal, Amanullah said. A vigil was also being kept on the activities of students' organisations of the two countries.

During the meeting convened by Union Home ministry on April one, Amanullah would brief the ministry officials about the steps taken by the Bihar government to check movement of anti-socials, transfer of illegal arms and other measures.
