New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will occupy the seat behind the deputy Speaker in the 17th Lok Sabha as per the allocation of seats by Speaker Om Birla’s office on Wednesday. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will have DMK leader TR Baalu and SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav for company in the front row of the opposition benches.

Rahul has been allotted seat number 466 in the second row. The front row of the main opposition benches will be occupied by Mulayam (455), TR Baalu (456), Sonia (457) and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury (458).

With seat allocation, the division of votes on bills and other issues can now be done through the electronic system. In this session, division has till now been done through slips.


As Congress floor leader, Chowdhury will occupy the seat meant for the leader of the opposition. Former CMs Farooq Abdullah (NC) and Akhilesh (SP) will be seated in the second row along with Rahul.

Supriya Sule (NCP) will be seated next to Abdullah, followed by PK Kunhalikutty (IUML). K Suresh, Congress chief Whip, has been allocated the seat next to Rahul. DMK’s A Raja and Kanimozhi will sit next to each other in the third row, where the former will have Congress’ Shashi Tharoor as his neighbour to the right.

On treasury benches, defence minister Rajnath Singh will be next to PM Modi. In this front row, home minister Amit Shah will sit on Singh’s right, followed by Nitin Gadkari, DV Sadanand Gowda and Narendra Singh Tomar.

Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi will occupy seat number seven, behind the PM.
