NEW DELHI: Pakistan is using Malaysia, Thailand and the UAE besides neighbouring nations like Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka to smuggle fake currency in the country, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Minister of state for Home Affairs Ajay Maken, however, informed the House that Government has not decided to approach the multi-lateral Financial Action Task Force with "hard evidence" linking Pakistan to financial fraud and terror financing.

On the question of quantum of fake currency pumped in India, he said the estimated value of recovery of high quality Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) in this year is approximately Rs 22 crore.

"There is no specific estimate for the quantum of annual inflow of FICN from Pakistan. However it is clear that large quantities of FICN are pumped into India from Pakistan through channels in different countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand and UAE," he said.
