Kalighat area near West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence has turned into a warzone as scuffle broke out between police and BJP workers over protest with body of BJP leader Dhurjoti alias Manas Saha of Magrahat (West) who died in post-poll violence.

Chaos prevailed as BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar was seen sitting in front of the hearse car while the police tried to take him away from the spot. Senior BJP leaders like Arjun Singh and Bhabanipur candidate Priyanka Tibrewal were also present during the protest.

Chaos broke out after the BJP leaders, including state President and Bhabanipur candidate, made a sudden halt with the body of their deceased candidate Dhurjati Saha, who died yesterday three months after an alleged post-poll violence related attack on May 2. The BJP state President sat on the road demanding justice for the deceased.

“We want justice for the victims of post-poll violence. Why will a person lose his son and a child will lose his father. People of West Bengal are watching the violence and unnecessary chaos due to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,” said Sukanta.

BJP Bhabanipur candidate Priyanka Tibrewal alleged that the police worked at the behest of the Trinamool Congress.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MLA Tapas Roy claimed that the new BJP state President Sukanta Majumdar is trying to create chaos in Bhabanipur just to become ‘popular’.

“The BJP is known for staging drama and today’s agitation is a part of their drama,” said Tapas.
