Scrap market closure: NGT asks authorities to reply in 2 weeks
The NGT has granted authorities in Gokalpur scrap market area two weeks time to ensure compliance of its orders on burning of tyres and plastic.

NEW DELHI: The National Green Tribunal has granted authorities in Gokalpur scrap market area here two weeks time to ensure compliance of its orders on burning of tyres and plastic.
A bench, headed by Justice U D Salvi, directed the concerned enforcement agencies to file their status reports and warned them that failure to comply with the directions of the Tribunal would incur cost of Rs 10,000 on each of them.
"Affidavit giving such details as directed shall be filed within a fortnight. We make it clear that failure to file such replies would incur cost of Rs 10,000 each," the bench said while posting the matter for next hearing on April 21.
It also asked the Mini Motor Market Association to file an affidavit giving the list of all the members of association along with their shop numbers operating in the area.
During the proceedings, Gokalpur Residents' Welfare Association complained of the continued "nuisance" caused on account of noise generated by denting and painting activity besides rampant air pollution caused due to tyre burning in the scrap market.
The Tribunal had earlier made it clear that there shall be no denting and painting activity in the market area and the concerned police authorities shall take immediate action in case of any violation.
The Tribunal had also directed the concerned Municipal Corporation to remove all waste material thrown and dumped on the road and file a status report on the next date of hearing.
It had directed Delhi Development Authority to check that the noise pollution is not caused in order to protect the children who are studying in the school situated nearby and asked DPCC to note down the noise level and file its status report on the same.
The bench had appointed advocates Rohit Sharma along with Karan Dev Chopra as Court Commissioners who shall visit the entire area and submit report.
The Tribunal had in December, 2014 directed the closure of the market for causing noise pollution after perusing the status report filed by DPCC.
Earlier, the status report submitted by DPCC had stated that on monitoring the noise level at three places, it was found that the scrap market was flouting the permissible levels of noise pollution.
