NEW DELHI: The pre-matric scholarship for OBCs is between Rs 25 and Rs 50 per month for day scholars and the rate of scholarship under the scheme has not been revised due to paucity of funds, the government today said.

Responding to a question on whether it was true that the pre-matric scholarship for OBCs is just Rs. 25-50 per month for day scholars, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar said "yes".

"An ad-hoc grant of Rs 500 per student per annum as other allowance is given to all students i.e. hostlers as well as day scholars OBC students under the scheme of pre-matric scholarship for OBC students," he added.

Noting that it is a fund-limited scheme, he said, the share of funds between the Centre and state governments is 50:50. In case of Union Territories 100 per cent central assistance is provided, he added.

"Due to paucity of funds, revision of the rate of scholarships under the scheme has not been done so far," he said.
