Schemes announced by AAP government to stay: Najeeb Jung
NEW DELHI: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung directed senior officials of the Delhi government to continue the popular initiatives, including 50 per cent subsidy on power tariff, free water and the anti-corruption helpline, started by the Arvind Krjeiwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government.

The decisions were taken at a high-level meeting Jung held with top bureaucrats of Delhi government a day after taking responsibility of the city as its administrator. He said that all the officers should ensure that the public grievances are settled in time bound manner.

Taking cue from the popularity of anti-corruption helplines started by the Kejriwal government, Jung instructed officials that the anti-corruption campaign should continue and the government will follow policy of zero tolerance towards corruption.

The anti-corruption helplines should also continue and all calls received should be attended promptly. Jung directed the chief secretary of Delhi to ensure that mechanism to carry out inspections of field offices in government of Delhi be operationalised.

Top officials said the 50 per cent subsidy to those limiting their monthly power consumption to 400 units will continue till March 31 as an appropriation bill earmarking Rs 372 crore as subsidy dues to power distribution companies was cleared by the Assembly on the day AAP government had resigned. They said government is likely to continue it beyond March 31 as well.

On AAP government’s decision on providing 50 per cent waiver to 24,000 power consumers who did not pay their bills responding to Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘Bijli-Paani’ agitation, the officials indicated that it may also be implemented.
