Scarlett case: Fiona denies receiving summons from Goa police

Fiona Mackeown, the mother of slain British teeenager Scarlett Keeling, has today denied receiving any summons from the Goa police to depose before the investigating agencies in the Scarlett death case.

PANAJI: Fiona Mackeown, the mother of slain British teeenager Scarlett Keeling, has today denied receiving any summons from the Goa police to depose before the investigating agencies in the Scarlett death case.

"To the best of my knowledge, Fiona has not received any summons from Goa police. I have been in constant touch with her discussing the Scarlett case follow up," Vikram Varma, Fiona's lawyer, told PTI this evening.

Scarlett's bruised corpse was found on Anjuna beach on February 18, following which Fiona, had launched a massive campaign against the state police.

After initial dilly-dallying, the state police have reinvestigated the death arresting two persons for allegedly drugging, raping and leaving Scarlett to die on the beach.

Fiona, who has expressed dissatisfaction over the investigation, had commented in the UK press that she knows her daughter's killers and the accused is a "highly connected person."

Her statement had earned ire from the state police who had stated that they had issued summons to her. "She has not received any summons and how can we respond to it?" Varma questioned.

However, on May 9, the north Goa Superintendent of Police Bosco George had made a statement that police will summon Fiona to get her desposition before the investigating agencies.

The summons were issued alongside the notification by the state government seeking to hand over the high profile case to the central bureau of investigation.
