SC/ST act applies only to Scheduled Castes and Tribes who have not converted: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has ruled that individuals who convert to religions outside Hinduism, Sikhism, or Buddhism lose Scheduled Caste status and cannot claim related benefits. Upholding an Andhra Pradesh High Court order, the court said the bar under the 1950 Presidential Order is absolute. The ruling came in a case involving a pastor who had converted to Christianity.
