SC verdict on Governors a ‘good judgement’, says DMK
The DMK party has welcomed a Supreme Court ruling concerning the powers of governors. The party stated that governors must assent to bills passed by state assemblies. They can seek clarifications if a bill contradicts the Constitution. However,...

"If he (the governor) finds anything which is contradicting the provisions of the Constitution, he may seek clarifications. He cannot deny any bill. He cannot say this bill cannot be passed. He has no authority," senior DMK leader Elangovan said.
He said that even the President is elected by MLAs and MPs, vice president by MPs and the PM too is elected. "A governor is appointed," he explained. "So his duty is to see whether any bill passed by the assembly is in consonance with the constitutional provisions."
He added if the state assembly, elected by the people of Tamil Nadu, passes a resolution, the governor has to accept it. "He can only seek clarification on a bill but cannot reject it. If the government gives a clarification, he has to accept it. But this governor is adamant."
