Ranjit Kumar initially demanded a hearing on Monday.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday will hear the BJP plea challenging a Calcutta High Court order backing the Bengal government’s move to disallow the party from holding multiple yatras across the state. The high court had rejected the plea on December 21. The BJP had accused the Mamata government of indulging in political vendetta and willfully violating its fundamental rights.

The plea was mentioned by senior advocate Ranjit Kumar for the BJP in court before a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Sanjay Kishan Kaul. Kumar initially demanded a hearing on Monday.

But the Bengal government, through advocate Amit Bhandari, opposed the date. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi will argue the state’s case in the hearing. The bench then posted it for hearing on January 8.
