Ayodhya land dispute: 3-member mediation committee submits report in Supreme Court, matter to be heard today
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Friday the issues relating to the Ayodhya's Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case.
Before attempting to judicially adjudicate the case pending before the SC since 2010, the bench had wanted to explore a negotiated settlement and had directed negotiations in Ayodhya away from media glare to facilitate a solution to an issue which has fractured India’s polity for several decades.
The mediators subsequently imposed a ban on media reporting the proceedings. Should the panel report failure in its attempt, the bench, comprising CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and Abdul Nazeer will begin hearing the case.
The Allahabad high court had in 2010 ordered partitioning the disputed 2.67 acre between claimants in 2:1 ratio.
