SC to Delhi Police: Withdraw cops from VIP security, deploy them for safety of women

Delhi Police on Thursday told the Supreme Court that it deploys over thousands of personnel for security of judges.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Delhi Police to withdraw cops from VIP security and deploy them for safety of women in the city.

After hearing Delhi Police's arguments, the apex court said that many of these personnel could be deployed for better purposes like making the Delhi roads safe for women.

The SC has given states time till February 11 to file affidavit on deployment of policemen for VVIP security.

The apex beach also said that if states do not file their replies by Monday, their home secretaries will have to appear personally in the court on February 16.
