SC slams government over CWG preparations

The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed government over the Commonwealth games preparations and for the rampant corruption found in the CWG 2010 projects.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed government over the Commonwealth games preparations and for the rampant corruption found in the CWG 2010 projects.

The apex court also questioned the amount of Rs 70,000 crores being spent for organising the Games and said the footbridge at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium collapsed like a pack of cards.

Earlier on Sunday, BJP and NDA leaders had also strongly criticised Organising Committee head and Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi, sports minister MS Gill and the Delhi Government for the shortcomings and corruption in the CWG 2010 projects.

The principal opposition even staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha during the last session of Parliament when Gill said during his presentation on the CWG debate that any information needed can be sought through an RTI application.

The recent collapse of a foot overbridge and other negative reports about lack of cleanliness has also drawn criticism from the opposition.
