SC sets aside HC order, no fresh probe in Rizwanur case

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said there would be no fresh CBI probe in the Rizwanur case. The apex court set aside the Calcutta high court's appeal for a fresh probe into the case. The court ruled there would be no fresh probe on Ashok Todi and the other suspects.

The death of Rizwanur, who was married to Ashok Todi's daughter Priyanka and was later allegedly separated by force, had hit the headlines in September 2007 after his body was found near railway track in Dum Dum.

The CBI had said it did not want to conduct a fresh probe into the mysterious death of Rizwanur Rehman, and had moved the Supreme Court challenging the Calcutta high court's May 18 directive.

Dissatisfied with the CBIs earlier probe terming Rizwanurs death as suicide and negating its plea to slap abetment to suicide charges against the Todis and cops who allegedly colluded with the industrialist, the high court had asked the agency to register a murder case on the basis of a complaint by Rizwanurs brother and conduct a fresh probe.
