SC rejects bail plea of Akhilesh Kumar

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to grant bail to Akhilesh Kumar Singh, an independent MLA from Uttar Pradesh facing trial in a murder case.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to grant bail to Akhilesh Kumar Singh, an independent MLA from Uttar Pradesh facing trial in a murder case. A bench headed by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan dismissed an application of petitioner MLA seeking bail.

In a minor relief to the MLA, the apex court added that if the trial in the case was not completed within three months, he could apply for bail.

The MLA from Rae Bareli is an accused in the murder of local Congress Seva Dal leader Rakesh Pandey. Three others are facing trial in the murder along with Singh. The murder took place on July 3, 2002.
