The Supreme Court on Monday ordered status quo on the Maharashtra local poll bodies for five weeks. Observing that it would constitute a special bench to decide the issue, the top court directed the State Election Commission (SEC) and the Maharashtra government to maintain status quo on the poll process to the local bodies.

The directions were passed by a bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana on a plea filed by the state government seeking a recall of the top court order asking SEC not to re-notify the poll process to 367 local bodies in order to provide reservation to OBCs.
